Women in Engineering Spotlight: Tori Jewell

ADB has experienced exponential growth and shows no signs of slowing down. The Engineering Team works tirelessly, both in the office and in the field, to make sure our projects are exceeding expectations and completed efficiently. Tori Jewell, Project Coordinator for the Engineering Team is a valuable asset and a direct proponent to the Engineering Team’s success.

When Tori joined the ADB family, she was welcomed with open arms. This welcoming spirit is something she has experienced throughout her entire journey with ADB. These feelings have also allowed Tori to feel empowered in various aspects of her work. When she joined ADB, she started on the construction side of the industry. She made the switch to engineering about two years ago and has had to learn a lot of new things along the way, which can be both scary and exciting. Her fear quickly went away when she realized she was surrounded by a team that boosts her confidence and makes her feel appreciated every single day.

“Everyone within the company makes you feel as if you have worked with them for years, even if it has only been weeks.”

Tori started in the construction industry by chance when she was just 19. She applied for a job as a Telecommunications Payroll & Billing Clerk and began that job knowing nothing about the industry. She quickly fell in love with it and can’t see herself in any other industry. Since beginning her career so young, working in a male-dominated industry is all she’s known. In the beginning she felt the need to prove herself but now, she often forgets that she is working in a male-dominated industry and has learned that if you work hard, that is what others are going to see when they look at you. She knows how challenging it can be to start in this industry, so if she could give one piece of advice to females just beginning their career, it would be:

“Don’t take criticism to heart! Instead, use it as an opportunity to learn and better yourself. You do not need to prove yourself because you are a female. Let the results of your hard work speak for you. If you enjoy what you do, that’s all that matters.”

Tori has learned a lot of valuable lessons throughout her career, but the most important one she has learned is to never stop learning. She quickly saw that if she was open to learning anything and everything she could, she would open herself up to opportunities she never imagined possible. This passion for learning has allowed her to grow her own career, help her team members, and find her passions at ADB. Tori sees herself continuing to grow and help projects run smoothly and ensure success for her team members and customers. She wants to continue using her skills and knowledge to make the biggest impact she can. ADB is her career destination.

Tori, thank you for your dedication and openness to helping others and continuously learning. Your future is bright at ADB!
